Sustainable food choices on campus. Provide sustainable food choices for all on campus, including vegetarian and vegan food.

The University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) is committed to providing sustainable food choices for all on campus, ensuring that students, staff, and visitors have access to nutritious and environmentally friendly options. One of the key aspects of this commitment is the availability of vegetarian and vegan food across various dining facilities. The Brasserie and Brasserie Coffee Shop, located on the ground floor of the Science Building, offer a wide range of pre-made sandwiches, rolls, hot meals, snacks, and beverages, with many options catering specifically to vegetarian and vegan diets. This ensures that those with dietary preferences or restrictions can enjoy diverse and delicious meals.

UniSC’s approach to sustainable food also includes sourcing products from local producers, which helps reduce the carbon footprint associated with food transportation and supports the local economy. By prioritizing local, seasonal, and organic produce, UniSC not only promotes healthier eating habits but also contributes to the sustainability of the food supply chain. This focus on local sourcing is part of a broader strategy to integrate sustainability into all aspects of campus life, aligning with the university’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to offering sustainable food choices, UniSC actively engages the campus community in sustainability initiatives. Educational programs and workshops on nutrition, sustainable eating practices, and the environmental impact of food choices are regularly organized to raise awareness and encourage responsible consumption. These initiatives empower students and staff to make informed decisions about their diets, fostering a culture of sustainability that extends beyond the campus.

By providing access to free food through the Student Guild foodbank and supporting various hunger alleviation programs, UniSC ensures that all students have the opportunity to enjoy healthy and sustainable meals. This comprehensive approach underscores UniSC’s dedication to creating a supportive and environmentally conscious campus environment.

Summary
