Lake Boomanjin Walk

OVERVIEW

Capture spectacular views from Wongi Sandblow and experience the Island's changing landscapes on the way to the world's largest perched lake.

Near K'gari Station is a starting point for the 90km Fraser Island Great Walk.

This shorter walk (below) follows the track to Lake Boomanjin, the world's largest perched lake.

Observe the noticeable changes in the landscape as you move from coastal dunes to forests of Scribbly Gum and Banksia trees.

1. K'gari Research Station

Starting from just outside the fence of the station, cross the boardwalk across sedge-filled Govi Creek and see Melaleucas, Swamp Banksias and Coral Ferns growing along its swampy verges.

After walking for about 4km through open forests and Scribbly Gum woodlands, take a short detour to explore and enjoy spectacular views from:

Follow your footprints back to the entrance track and continuing following the Great Walk track to:

3. Lake Boomanjin

Facilities include toilets, camping ground and fenced eating area.
