The K'gari Great Walk

OVERVIEW

The K'gari (Fraser Island) Great Walk is part of the Great Walks of Queensland.

K'gari Research Station, near start of the Great Walk. is part of the Great Walks of Queensland. It is a world-class system of walking tracks through Queensland's protected area estate, including four magnificent World Heritage Areas.

The K'gari Great Walk is 90km in length and takes 6 to 8 days to complete. The walk covers ever-changing scenery and numerous landscapes. Hikers must be fully self-sufficient and carry water.

Shorter walks are also available and range from easy strolls to half-day and full-day adventures. Options from the station include:

  • Wongi Sandblow - 8.3km return (3-4hrs)
  • K'gari Research Station to Markwell's Break returning along eastern beach - 21.6km circuit (7-9hrs)
  • Lake Boomanjin - 21.6km return (4-6hrs)

The K'gari Research Station is the southern most camp site along the walk and offers a range of facilities and services for visitors embarking on the Great Walk:

  • Basic supplies; and
  • Visitor information
