If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably someone who likes to have ALL the details – we like that!
We’ve called in a bunch of favours from some of our friends at the Dolphins, the Lightning, the Butchulla people, and our academics to create a trip we hope you’ll never forget!
We regularly work with these friends on research, teaching and learning experiences so we have a pretty good in with all of them.
Day One
Ok, the footy is the big-ticket item for this day – no doubt. But there’s a bit of time to kill before we hit The Cauldron so we want to show you around our newest crib (we’re told that’s youth-speak for campus – yes, we are ✨ very✨ cool).
We’ll show you some of our facilities and introduce you to our robot overlords helpers – we have robodogs and a humanoid so far, with plans to build a army family. These are heaps of fun and have a lot of applications in teaching our engineering programs.
After you’ve checked out the campus, it’s off to watch the Dolphins v Panthers at Suncorp Stadium – where we’ve got a personalised, behind-the-scenes tour lined up. You’ll get to meet the players, check out the dressing rooms and walk on the field – this is a unique opportunity that we’re stoked to offer you (thanks to our close relationship with the Dolphins #PhinsUp).
Day Two
From Brisbane to Noosa – nothing like a beach day after the footy.
We’re talking biking along main beach with one of our outdoor ed experts.
We’re talking lunch in Noosa with Sunshine Coast Lightning players, including Australian Diamonds captain Liz Watson.
We’re talking kayaking on the Noosa Everglades with one of our animal ecology gurus.
We’re talking dinner along the Noosa River with one of the finest shark researchers around.
This is what we call a good balance between recreation and learning (it’s one of our mantras).
Day Three
Rise and grind – K’gari awaits! We’ve got a day of guided adventure teed up on the world’s largest sand island!
We’ll take a dip at Eli Creek.
We’ll check out the iconic Maheno shipwreck.
You’ll get to meet our friends from the Butchulla group – they’re the Traditional Owners of this UNESCO world heritage area.
All this before bunkering down for the night at our research station on the island and enjoying fireside chats with our very own legendary Arctic Adventurer and Geotechnical Engineering expert, Dr Adrian McCallum.
Day Four
If you think we need to chill, you might be right – we’ve pared it back a little for the last day, with plenty of activities still planned but a bit less busy.
We’ll explore photography and soundscapes with our Creative Industries experts and learn about soil mechanics before leaving for a dip in Lake Mackenzie (if you haven’t heard of it, think incredible blue water against a white-sand backdrop – it’s magical!)
The hardest part of all this for us…is saying goodbye!
