Hayley wanted to be a paramedic since she was a teenager. But the path to realising that dream would be difficult, with a series of tragedies delaying Hayley’s journey, including the death of her children’s father, leaving her as a sole parent to her children. However, through it all, Hayley persisted, demonstrating the passion and drive that underpin so many who follow the path to paramedicine.

As a paramedic, I go to work in the morning and I might get called out to the beach, or to a farm, or to a nursing home. I enjoy that variety and it is super rewarding being able to help people in their time of need.

My placement was at North Lakes in Brisbane. It was for four weeks and one of the best experiences I've had. Everything I learned in the labs and in my classes set me up to be comfortable, confident and ready to hit the ground running.
