A workplace-focused course to help you excel in the security industry

Take advantage of this free, specialised course designed for Queensland licensed security professionals to advance your expertise and elevate your professional standards. Aligned with the Queensland Security Industry Workforce Development Plan 2020-2025, this course will support your career progression while strengthening essential skills like communication, conflict resolution, and customer service.

Through targeted weekly workshops in de-escalation techniques, effective communication skills and strategic problem solving, you will learn how to reduce risks, improve community safety and stay prepared in today's dynamic and ever-changing society. This course also focuses on behavioural observation skills, the latest industry information and strategies for reducing vulnerability.

By the end of this course, you will gain new tools and strategies to improve your day-to-day effectiveness and boost your career prospects. Join us to gain the skills to lead confidently, enhance safety, and make a lasting impact in the field.

This course is delivered in partnership with the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL), funded by Jobs Queensland and proudly supported by the Queensland Government.

Am I eligible to register?

This course is open to all licensed security professionals living and working in Queensland.

How is the course delivered? 
  • 7 x 2 hour workshops, every week for 7 weeks
  • Onsite in Cairns and Townsville
  • Simultaneously online for those outside of the delivery locations
  • Sessions are recorded each week for those who are unable to attend class at the scheduled times

Dr Wayne Graham
Meet the Teaching Team

Dr Wayne Graham is a Senior Lecturer in Management at UniSC. Wayne has developed a suite of microcredential planning courses in collaboration with all levels of government and stakeholders from a variety of industry sectors. The courses are co-designed, co-delivered and co-evaluated with industry representatives and government agencies. Funding for the courses has been provided by the Queensland Government. The courses are offered simultaneously online and onsite at various locations throughout the state.

Wayne is facilitating the Skills Enhancement for Security Professionals course in collaboration with Eric Wilson who is an Applied Criminologist and Pracademic. Eric is a Fellow of the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL), demonstrating his commitment to advancing the security industry in Australia. He is the Oceania Director-at-Large for the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners and is an International Crime Prevention Specialist. He holds a Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Teaching, and a Graduate Certificate in Crime and Violence Prevention. Eric teaches security courses with the School of Law and Society at UniSC.
