Marvel at the majestic giant trees of Pile Valley, as they grow to towering heights out of only sand.
The valley's Satinay trees can reach more than 40 metres into the skywith trunks of more than 4 metres in circumference. It is also home to the giant Brushbox with its distinctive tessellated bark.
Hundreds of palm trees are interspersed throughout the forest, including Piccabeen palms growing with straight leafless trunks for 25 metres or more.
From the 1920s, Satinay trees from Pile Valley were used to line docks and as pilings for jetties around the world, including the Suez Canal and the London Docks.
TheSatinay's height and high turpentine content, which made it resistant to marine borer, meantthe timberwas ideal for the job.
