Law - Law Professional Practice and Legal Internship

School of Law and Society offers students a range of opportunities to experience the practical application of legal knowledge and skills in workplace settings. Students observe how legal practice integrates the knowledge and skills gained in law studies with awareness of the social and commercial context in which legal problems arise. They reflect on the difficulties people experience in gaining access to justice, and evaluate laws and legal institutions from broader perspectives.

LAW423 Community Legal Practice

In LAW423 you will be guided by a practising solicitor in a simulated work environment for 3 hours a week. During this time you will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the provision of legal assistance to real clients. In conjunction with a practising solicitor you will be involved in client interviews, conducting legal research, preparing legal advice and drafting correspondence. This course will develop your practical skills and your understanding of the daily life of a legal practitioner.

LAW414 Legal Internship

LAW414 Legal Internship is an elective course in which students develop their legal knowledge and skills in a work placement with a law firm, barristers’ chambers, magistrate or government body. Students attend the placement site for a total of 90 hours in the semester.
