Sport for Thought

Sport for Thought uses sport to promote personal and social capability and raise the aspirations of Year 9 and Year 10 students to participate in higher education. The program is an initiative of UniSC, funded by the Australian Government Department of Education’s Higher Education Partnerships Program. It is free for targeted low SES Secondary Schools.

The Sport for Thought program includes:

  1. A five-hour immersive ‘Live Event’ at UniSC Sunshine Coast delivering:

  1. An online learning experience providing a Certificate in Personal Leadership

The online Sport for Thought course gives students a university learning experience and reinforces the personal leadership skills that are explored in the Live Event Personal Leadership Forum i.e., self-reflection, organisational skills, resilience and perseverance, respectful relationships, and communication skills, as well as information about university life. The course can be done in students’ own time (approx. 5-6 hours) or schools can decide to implement the course partly or fully in curriculum time. A UniSC Certificate in Personal Leadership will be awarded to students who complete the online course, providing a valuable addition to their resumes/portfolios.

UniSC High Performance Student Athletes who are combining high level sport with higher education are featured in both the immersive Live Event and online course as role models, inspiring students and connecting them with personal leadership skills and higher education through storytelling and relationship building.
