Artistic students have shown off their work and even made a few dollars at the first USC Moreton Bay RISE Creative Showcase and Market Day on Wednesday 15 September.

The event was an extension of the campus’s regular monthly market day and attracted both USC Moreton Bay Creative Industries students, who planned the event, and artistic people from other USC programs and campuses.

In addition to stalls, there were musical performances and displays of students’ work.

Bachelor of Design student Amy Cousins, from Narangba, said it was good to be among people who appreciated creativity and to have people buy her clothing items.

“I sold a lot more than I thought I would. The group have done such a good job,” she said.

Whiteside resident Flora Bradley, who sells Ag Bags and raises money for Drought Angels, said the day had been fun and productive.

Mrs Bradley said it was her third USC Moreton Bay Market Day and she had sold more of her recycled feed bags turned shopping bags each time.

Lawnton author Bernie Dowling described the students’ art, crafts, music and literature as thoughtful and entertaining.

“It was one of the best markets I have ever sold my books at, with people not only buying but engaging in conversation about my work,” Mr Dowling said.

“I believe a lot of the market organisation was done by students. The result was a credit to them.”

Creative Industries academic Dr Karen Hands said the response to the market day was phenomenal.

“To see so many people on campus enjoying the students' creative work by listening to music, viewing the images on the Rise screen, and buying their work, was a testament to the organising students’ hard work over the past six months,” Dr Hands said.

“This authentic work-integrated learning experience has given them an incredible set of skills that will set them apart as graduates. We are already talking about the next event.”
