Business graduate takes fast track into management

At just 21, USC Business graduate Samuel Johnson is already managing the Queensland warehouse of a national company.

The North Lakes resident, who graduated from USC last week with a Bachelor of Business (Management), is now a state service centre coordinator for Crommelin Waterproofing and Sealing.

“My work involves managing the company’s Queensland warehouse, and includes customer service and sales, aiding in creating specifications, quoting for commercial jobs, inventory management and organising freight and delivery,” he said.

Samuel credited his USC degree for providing skills and knowledge that he could draw on each day.

“I am constantly utilising theories and methods from supply chain management, such as lean and agile theories in accordance with inventory management,” he said.

“Quality management knowledge is used to ensure products are sold and transported in a state that customers are satisfied with and write-offs are less likely to occur.

“My understanding of leadership and team dynamics allows me to utilise deeper interpersonal skills and understand how others may view certain situations and how to handle that.”

Samuel, who graduated from Grace Lutheran College at Rothwell in 2017, said he was impressed with the professional and approachable teaching staff at USC.

“They allowed us to challenge ourselves and have provided effective feedback that I can and have used to improve,” he said.
