Moreton Bay residents have the chance to learn more about the role that gaming can play in creating positive community change at a free presentation at Caboolture Library on Thursday 12 March.

As part of the Moreton Minds talk series, a partnership between Moreton Bay Region Libraries and USC, Senior Lecturer in Design Dr Uwe Terton will discuss the benefits of gaming in a presentation starting at 6pm called ‘Games for Change’.

“There’s a perception in the community that if you come to university to study serious gaming, you’ll be playing video games 24/7,” Dr Terton said.

“This is not the case obviously, and the potential applications for using gaming in different ways is infinite,” he said.

“One of my past projects utilised gaming to help nursing students learn how to better interact with patients. Gaming can make learning and education so much more engaging.”

Dr Terton said studying Serious Games Design subjects at university could lead to a variety of career options that many people were not aware of.

“Gaming has a big role to play in societal change and can be used for positive change in education and awareness,” he said.
