A book-loving 19-year-old Strathpine resident at a study and career crossroads is about to start a new chapter at USC Moreton Bay.
Joseph Wagner has received an early offer to study a Bachelor of Business at the newly-constructed campus at Petrie when it opens to students in Semester 1, 2020.
“It feels like everything has been leading up to this,” said Joseph, who will be able to keep his casual job at a local supermarket and live at home while gaining his degree.
Australia’s newest university campus will offer almost 50 degrees in its first year, including business, education, psychology, computer science and mechatronic engineering.
Joseph, who enjoys reading novels, said the convenience was a major drawcard, with Petrie only five kilometres or a few train stations from home.
“I originally went to uni straight out of school (Aspley State High) and it just didn’t click,” he said.
“It also took an hour and a half to get to the campus in Brisbane City, so when I heard about the new uni coming to a suburb near me, I thought it was amazing and applied.”
Joseph decided on a Business degree because of its breadth of opportunities for future careers and said he was keen to explore courses in accounting and marketing.
“I really want to be learning again and get workforce-ready. USC Moreton Bay seems more homely and friendly and I like that it will have a whole suburban community behind it.”
USC Moreton Bay will open in early 2020 with a state-of-the-art foundation building that includes a full suite of university services. The three-storey multi-purpose building is the first stage of development of the university precinct that is expected to attract 10,000 students enrolled in more than 100 programs by 2030.
