An OP2 student from Cashmere seeking an exciting career in environmental law has enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws/Environmental Management at USC.

Tara Phillips, who graduated last year from Genesis Christian College at Bray Park, is looking forward to studying at USC Sunshine Coast, particularly after her family recently moved to Bli Bli.

“Even if I was living in Brisbane I would have commuted because I loved the environment of USC after I went to Open Day last year,” she said.

The 17-year-old, whose favourite senior school subjects were legal studies, chose USC’s double degree to combine her interest in law with her passion for the environment.

“Career-wise, I want to use law and policy to make a difference in the environment,” she said.

“I can’t wait to try the moot court because I’m a really practical learner and I love to debate. I’m looking forward to studying exactly what I want to, every day.”

Ms Phillips was chair of her school’s social justice committee, leading a team working on fundraising and awareness projects for local community initiatives and overseas orphanages.

She said the short commute to Sippy Downs would allow her to keep working part-time as a shop assistant while studying.

USC Sunshine Coast will host Orientation activities in the week starting Monday 18 February. This will include information sessions, market stalls, student clubs and entertainment.

USC Moreton Bay will open at Petrie in 2020, offering almost 50 undergraduate degree programs including business, education, computer science and mechatronics.

Applications are still open to study at USC in 2019.
