A USC degree has helped Bridgeman Downs resident Georgia Martin grow her creative career ambitions from floristry to online media.
The 25-year-old, who graduated this month with a USC Bachelor of Creative Industries, is now marketing and social media manager (in training) at D’Arcy Estate Agency at Ashgrove.
“My role includes helping manage and improve the social media pages of the business, write marketing material, and fulfil other office duties,” she said.
“I’m excited to be using my knowledge of social media to improve their following and engagement.”
Georgia said her major in Creative Advertising, which included writing marketing copy, had made her a standout applicant to the employer.
Originally from Greater Western Sydney, she completed a certificate in floristry when she was 18 and worked as a senior florist in Sydney before moving to Brisbane in 2013.
“I also worked as a senior florist in Brisbane before deciding to go to uni to start a new career at 22 years old,” she said.
Georgia, who worked at a jewellery retailer while completing her degree, said USC Sunshine Coast was a relaxed campus with a beautiful outdoor environment for studying and enjoying new friendships.
“I chose USC because the course structuring worked well for me and I could study what I wanted, finishing with a degree that was useful in multiple ways,” she said.
“The tutors and lecturers were fantastic at teaching courses with content for the real world.
“A highlight was taking the Creative Industries study tour to Hong Kong. I was thrilled that I was chosen to go, out of so many great students. It was an eye-opening experience.”
She said her USC study also boosted her confidence when attending job interviews.
Applications are open to study at USC, starting Semester 2. Details on how to apply can be found at www.usc.edu.au/learn
