A team of university engineering students will be among those spending this weekend inventing new solutions with open government data.

The Queensland Government’s GovHack event runs for 46 hours from 7 September at 7pm to 9 September at 5pm, with Sunshine Coast official event nodes at USC’s CAVE2 visualisation facility at its Sippy Dows campus and at Peregian Digital Hub.

USC Engineering Discipline Leader Dr Helen Fairweather said students from USC’s Engineering Research Methodology subject were keen to get involved.

“I have actually set the event as an assignment for students on the course because it is extremely relevant to what they are learning about how engineering decisions are made,” Dr Fairweather said.

“Using public data well is at the core of great decision making,” she said.

The public is also available to join the challenge at 2018.hackerspace.govhack.org
