Madison Fredberg of Wamuran has headed to North Queensland for work after completing a Bachelor of Nursing Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Madison, 24, recently started as a graduate nurse at Townsville Hospital, where she cares for patients in the day surgery unit. She returned to the Sunshine Coast earlier this month for her graduation ceremony at USC’s main campus at Sippy Downs.
Madison enrolled at USC after being in the workforce for several years and described her decision to study Nursing Science as the best career move she ever made.
“In the day surgery unit, I work with patients through their journey from admission to discharge and everything in between,” she said.
“My patients range in age from six months through to adults and it is a hands-on, exciting and overall rewarding job.
“The Bachelor of Nursing Science that I achieved at USC allowed me to further my knowledge and expand into a career that I feel suits me to my core.”
While she was initially drawn to USC by the lifestyle offered on the Sunshine Coast, Madison said it was the people she had met during her degree that had made her university experience memorable.
“I found the Sunshine Coast community and natural beauty brought out a relaxed and friendly manner in people that I have come to look back on with fondness,” she said.
“I aim to advance my skills and eventually head back to university to complete additional health care degrees.”
Applications are now open for mid-year entry for a range of programs at USC.
