Petrie graduate mixes Arts and Science

Petrie resident Sandy Briigman has graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast with a combined degree in Arts and Science.

Sandy, 23, is currently employed in the floristry industry but has her sights set on working for a scientific research company.

She received a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Public Relations) and Bachelor of Science (majoring in Biotechnology) at USC’s graduation ceremony on 1 October and is now seeking work that utilises either or both of her areas of expertise.

“I would love to work either as a lab technician or as part of a public relations team to help scientists gain funding to advance their research,” Sandy said.

“My study has helped me to gain a better understanding of how the world works as a whole.

“I have a scientific understanding of what happens with micro-organisms and can see their effects on everyday life, but also have the public presentation skills to explain the science involved to others.”

Sandy, who grew up in Dalby, said USC’s friendly campus environment and teaching staff had made the University the right choice for her.

“I loved the atmosphere. You were able to go straight from the beach to a lecture or tutorial,” she said.

“The lecturers and tutors were so helpful and willing to go above and beyond what you would expect them to do.

“Many times I had meetings with my lecturers just to gain the extra understanding that was needed for a certain area of the course.”

Applications are now open to start studying at USC in 2016. For more information visit the USC website or contact Student Administration on 5430 2890 or email information@usc.edu.au.
