USC staff donate to Salvos Christmas appeal

Staff from the University of the Sunshine Coast have helped local families have a happier Christmas with the donation of about 20 food and gift hampers to the Salvation Army.

USC Senior HR Consultant (Health, Safety and Wellbeing) Peter Gooding this week presented the hampers to Salvation Army Maroochydore officer Daniel Ross, along with a cheque for $857.

A large part of the donation was collected at the recent USC Staff Swimming Carnival held in late November, which saw more than 60 swimmers and 170 spectators get involved.

Now in its third year, the carnival had plenty of friendly rivalry between disciplines and had staff jumping in the pool in costumes ranging from pirates to tutus.

Mr Gooding said baskets were also placed in offices around the university for staff to contribute food and toys as part of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.

“The swimming carnival is part of our wellbeing program for staff,” Mr Gooding said.

“It’s a lot of fun and great for morale, and it’s also a chance for us to contribute to a good cause.

“The Salvation Army is a fantastic local group, and the cash donations, toys and food we’ve collected are all going to local families in need.”
