Professor Ken Hughey

Adjunct Professor

Professor Ken Hughey is the Chief Science Advisor for the New Zealand Government’s Department of Conservation in Wellington. Ken is also a Professor of Environmental Management at Lincoln University, Christchurch. Ken’s research focuses on peoples perceptions of the environment, collaborative approaches to environmental management and generally on conservation and environment issues. Ken’s research achievements over the last five years have included playing a role in the development of an Atua (te ao Māori based) framework for thinking about approaches to environmental management, completing the 2019 survey of peoples perceptions of the state of New Zealand’s environment, and understanding how a government agency has responded to COVID-19 and implications for our carbon footprint.
