Enhancing risk assessment for preventing child sexual abuse: An evaluation of the Life Without Barriers ‘train-the-trainer’ program

In response to a prior project undertaken by members of the SVRPU team (Rayment-McHugh and Adams), Life Without Barriers developed a bespoke ‘train-the-trainer’ program to promote the implementation of new foster carer recruitment tools designed to enhance the prevention of child sexual abuse in out-of-home settings.

This project involved an evaluation of the pilot ‘train-the-trainer’ program. The evaluation was informed by a realist framework, considering the context and complexities of program implementation. A mixed methods research design was employed including questionnaires, interviews, and an audit of assessment reports.

Impact

Informed by this evaluation, Life Without Barriers have revised training content and delivery and have revised and enhanced the assessment tools that form the basis of this training program. Life Without Barriers continue to deliver the revised training program nationally. The assessment tools are now incorporated into assessment procedures within the organisation.
