At UniSC, we are committed to creating a work and study environment, which values the rich diversity of our staff and students. We value the multifaceted identities in our UniSC community. This includes our professional and educational identity with characteristics such as learning and working styles at all life stages.
UniSC recognises that age-friendly universities have an important role in meeting the unique needs and interests of an ageing population and is committed to the Age-Friendly University (AFU) Global Network’s 10 guiding principles.
By endorsing the AFU Global Network’s guiding principles, UniSC aims to achieve several key objectives:
Key objectives
Promoting lifelong learning: UniSC recognises the importance of lifelong learning and provides diverse educational opportunities for older adults. We believe that learning knows no age limits and are committed to offering programs and resources that cater to the unique needs and aspirations of older learners.
Enhancing social inclusion: UniSC strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for older adults, fostering a sense of belonging and community on our campus. We are actively engaged in initiatives that promote intergenerational connections and facilitate meaningful interactions among students, staff, and the wider community.
Conducting age-related research: UniSC acknowledges the significance of age-related research and its potential to address the challenges and opportunities associated with aging. By joining the AFU Global Network, we aim to collaborate with like-minded institutions and contribute to cutting-edge research in gerontology and related disciplines.
Advocating age-friendly policies: UniSC is committed to influencing policy at local, regional, and national levels to promote age-friendly practices and address the needs of older adults effectively.
Strengthening community engagement: UniSC recognises the importance of actively engaging with the wider community, including older adults and alumni. Through our involvement in the AFU Global Network, we aim to enhance our community outreach initiatives, collaborate with local organisations, and contribute to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of our region.
