Nicole joined the Centre early in 2018 as a Research Assistant on the BAT-RLX project, where she is primarily responsible for the coding of road user behaviour using Observer XT software and contributes to the reporting of findings to improve safety at rail level crossings. Nicole also provides support on the Queensland Health Bridge Labs Project, a collaboration with Clinical Excellence Queensland, which involves the translation of state-of-the-art systems HFE principles and methods in healthcare practice.

Nicole completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with the Centre in 2022, receiving a Class I and was awarded a Commendation for Academic Excellence and a Student Leadership Award. Nicole’s honours project explored the perceptions of the impacts of stressful events on train driver performance and the findings were presented by Associate Professor Gemma Read at the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) Rail Safety Conference in May 2022. Nicole’s paper is currently in preparation for publishing, and she has recently accepted an offer to commence her PhD in 2024. Her PhD will focus on a Systems Thinking approach to address technology-facilitated abuse in the context of intimate partner violence.
