Kayla is an experienced occupational therapist who has worked across the Sunshine Coast. Kayla has spent the majority of her time working as an occupational therapist in community paediatrics. Along with clinical roles Kayla has worked as the professional supervisor and clinical lead which has created the foundation for supporting Occupational Therapists to grow and develop not only their own clinical skills sets, also their professional identity as an occupational therapist.
Kayla is passionate about preparing students for clinical practice through the development of their clinical and professional skills to have a sustainable and fulfilling career as occupational therapist. Kayla works as the Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead in the UniSC Living Well Occupational Therapy Student Led Clinic where she supports students on their 3rd and 4th year long block placements. Through this role Kayla has established a model of care to optimise student learning and through the development of community partnerships established itself as a vital service within the Sunshine Coast.
In 2024 Kayla was the recipient of an OT futures Practice Educator Commendation Award. This award is external to the university where students across Queensland are asked to nominate, through the OT futures website, practice educators who have made a significant impact on their development as occupational therapists during their placements. Commendation recipients demonstrate exemplary practice in facilitating the learning of occupational therapy students by promoting the student’s identity as an occupational therapist, encouraging reflective practice and demonstrating effective communication skills in supervision and support.
Kayla also received a Learning and Teaching Excellence Award in 2024 in recognition for enhancing the professional skills and graduate preparedness of students.
