Floris Van Der Leest

Floris van der Leest joined UniSC as Manager, Research Performance Information, Impact, and Systems within the Office of Research on 26 June 2023. In this role, he leads efforts to enhance UniSC’s information systems, research performance and impact, contributing to a culture of excellence in research governance. His work ensures alignment with UniSC’s strategic goals and compliance with national standards, all while focusing on practical, efficient solutions.

Known for his strategic insight and innovative approach, Floris oversees the timely delivery of research performance reporting, from research assessments to global rankings and benchmarking initiatives. His thorough analyses and evidence-based advice play a key role in shaping UniSC’s research strategy, operational plans, and future directions.

Floris is a valued member of the senior leadership team within the Office of Research. He works closely with the Director, Office of Research, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), supporting UniSC’s research community with robust policies, efficient systems, and a clear focus on excellence.

Previous Experience

Floris brings over 25 years of experience in Research Information Management, with a distinguished career spanning institutions such as James Cook University, Victoria University, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. His work demonstrates a steadfast commitment to enhancing research support as well as research management while promoting transparency and public accountability.

In 2023, he received the Society of Research Administrators International’s Distinguished Faculty Award and the INORMS Award for Excellence in Research Management Leadership, acknowledging his exceptional leadership, successful initiatives, and sustained impact on the profession globally. In 2024, he was conferred the title of Fellow of ARMS, a recognition from the Australasian Research Management Society for his enduring and substantial contributions to development of research management, closer to home.
