Indigenous Direct Entry and Access Scheme (IDEAS)

If you identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, you may be given direct entry to a program based on your potential to succeed through our Indigenous Direct Entry Scheme (IDEAS).

This is a direct entry scheme for people who may not have completed Year 12 or have no previous study experience.

We will consider your past experience in relation to study and employment, as well as your potential to successfully complete University studies. Community involvement, past achievements or awards and current employment information are also considerations we will take into account.

All applicants who apply will be provided with either direct entry to a suitable program, or a place in Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP).

IDEAS is a UniSC initiative aimed at increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in programs across all areas of study.

To be eligible to be considered for entry under this scheme, applicants must:

  • Apply to study in an Undergraduate Program or Tertiary Preparation Pathway at UniSC
  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Be at least 17 years and over

High-school leavers completing year 12 are not eligible, and must apply through QTAC.

IDEAS is not applicable to the Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Midwifery or Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Applicants for these programs should consider the Indigenous Health Admissions Pathway.

How to apply
Step 1 Complete the IDEAS online registration form.
Step 2 You will be invited to attend an IDEAS Interview with one of our dedicated Student Advisers from Buranga Centre.
Step 3 The Student Adviser will recommend that you are approved for entry into an undergraduate program or alternative pathways will be discussed.
Step 4

The Student Adviser will provide information about the many services and facilities available to you as a student including bursaries and scholarships.

Step 5 You will then receive your official offer letter and welcome pack from UniSC.

We look forward to speaking with you!
