Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) program provides you with a contemporary and historical understanding of international politics. It examines many dimensions of other societies including their politics, cultures and economic systems.

The focus is on learning about cultures, languages and systems of government, and the complex relationships within the international arena.

As well as gaining a specific knowledge of international politics and business, graduates develop a range of skills relevant to many management, administration and research jobs in the public and private sectors. These include communication, policy and political analysis, research, strategic planning for management and marketing.

Career Outcomes

Knowledge and skills acquired through the Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) are transferable across many sectors such as government, education, the arts, commerce, and industry. Depending on minor and majors chosen, opportunities exist in:

Program Requirements and Notes

1. No more than 10 introductory courses are to be completed, including Core Courses in the BA(IntSt).

2. No courses may be counted towards more than one major or minor.

3. Required introductory courses may count towards some majors and minors.

4. A maximum of 6 Business or Science courses (72 units) can be included in the BA(IntSt).

5. If you choose a minor (4 courses) in International Business, the electives must be used to complete the relevant prerequisites required for advanced International Business courses.

6. If you choose a minor (4 courses) in International Business, elective courses can be used to complete an additional minor in languages.

7. An introductory level course has a number less than 200 in its course code. An advanced level course has a number greater than 200 and less than 400 in its course code.
