Permits and barges

OVERVIEW

Permits are required for every vehicle entering the Island and to camp in National Parks campsites. Vehicle barges leave from Inskip Point (eastern side) and River Heads (western side).

Barges

Inskip Point -A barge service to Hook Point services the eastern side of the Island. It departs continuously between 6am to 5pm from Inskip Point (approximately 80km east of Gympie and 13km from Rainbow Beach). The trip time is approximately 10 minutes. No bookings required. Contact the barge crew on 0418 872 599.

River Heads- A service operates from River Heads (east of Maryborough) to Kingfisher Bay or Wanggoolba Creek on the western side of the Island. The trip time is between 30-50 minutes. Bookings required. Ph: 1800 227 437.

Camping permits

A camping permit is not required for visitors staying at Dilli Village and not planning to camp elsewhere on the Island.

Permits for all QPWS camping areas must be purchased before setting up camp - fees apply.

When booking, state the name of the camping zone or area and the dates of the intended camp. Camping elsewhere during this period is not allowed unless the booking is amended beforehand.

A camping permit booking number must be clearly displayed at the camp site.

Collect permit tag and visitor information from aQueensland Parks and Wildlife Service office or permit issuing agents.
