FIDO

OVERVIEW

FIDO (Fraser Island Defenders Organisation) aims to protect the natural integrity of K'gari.

FIDO has a proud history of more than a quarter of a century of campaigning achievements to protect one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.

FIDO was formed in January, 1971, by voluntary conservationists from Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg to stop logging and sand mining on K'gari. The simultaneous campaigns are still considered some of the most significant and hard fought conservation battles in Australia.

John Sinclair AO led FIDO through these campaigns and, despite his death in 2019, his legacy and work continues today.

Weeding program

FIDO pioneered weeding operations on K'gari and has been carrying out weeding operations in Eurong for more than a decade. FIDO is carrying out this project as part of its commitment to the Fraser Island Natural Integrity Alliance (FINIA).

Weeding bees usually run for one week starting on a weekend and continue to the next weekend.
